Our friend and partner of Añoreta, MANUEL VIOLA, doctor and photographer premieres in the Museum of Municipal Heritage the exhibition “Talabés” that collects the drama of the hundred thousand children of the “daaras” of Senegal.
Guided by the “marabouts” (teachers of the Qur’an), they are raised in “daaras” (Koranic schools) in exchange for what little they obtain by begging.
After six trips to Senegal, Manuel Viola, brings together this exhibition based on his experience, which allows him to approach this reality in an authentic and full of humanity.
In the words of the police station of ours, Victoria Abón, when analyzing the photographs of Viola, black and white abstracts us from the temporality of the images, while emphasizing the “unpolished technique” of the author.
Manuel Viola offers us a work that serves to denounce a cruel and unjust situation by endowing it with a serene beauty without falling into easy sentimentalism.
In his words, what he pretends to be is “a shout that sets people off to make it stop.”
Congratulations Manolo !!
